Spring Assessments

March 19, 2024

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This letter is to provide you with information on upcoming assessments that we are required to administer as a public school district in Illinois, as well as the ones that we have decided to administer locally.  Please mark your calendars and encourage your child/children to put forth their best efforts in taking these assessments.

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Suite of Assessments: (SAT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9)
The SAT Suite of Assessments is an integrated system of tests that measure what students are learning in class and what they need to succeed in college.

PSAT 8/9: (9th Grade Students) Testing Date:  Tuesday, April 9, 2024
SAT (11th and current 12th Grade Students--who did not test last year) Testing Date: Wednesday, April 10, 2024
PSAT 10: (10th Grade Students) Testing Date: Thursday, April 11, 2024

The SAT Suite of Assessments will be delivered in a new digital format that provides a better testing experience. Please ensure your student arrives on test day with their school-issued chromebook and charger in order to have a successful testing experience. Watch this video  to see what your student can expect with the digital SAT or PSAT. Students have access to free full-length practice tests in Bluebook™, College Board’s digital testing application, and Official Digital SAT Prep with Khan Academy®. In addition, when they receive their score report, it will have personalized insights on career options.

Due to the staff oversight required for administering these assessments, students at RIHS ONLY will operate on a virtual learning schedule on April 9th, April 10th, or April 11th, depending on when your student is scheduled to take the test.

PSAT 8/9 (9th Grade Students) Testing Date: April 9, 2024
● Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will work virtually/remotely on assignments posted in their Google Classrooms while Freshmen attend in-person to complete the PSAT Assessment.
State SAT (11th Grade Students) Testing Date:  April 10, 2024

● All Freshmen and Sophomores, as well as all Seniors that have already taken the SAT, will work virtually/remotely on assignments posted in their Google Classrooms, while Juniors (and Seniors that have not taken the SAT) will attend school in person to complete the SAT Assessment.

PSAT 10 (10th Grade Students) Testing Date: April 11, 2024
● Freshmen, Juniors, and Seniors will work virtually/remotely on assignments posted in their Google Classrooms while Sophomores attend in-person to complete the PSAT Assessment.
Additional Testing:
Advanced Placement (AP) Testing
Students in all AP courses are encouraged to take the AP Exam. An AP Exam Score of 3 or higher may earn the student college credit. Please see the Assistant Principal, Mr. Logan, if you have any questions.

AP Testing Window: Monday, May 6, 2024 - Friday, May 17, 2024.
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Testing
This test is given to determine your child’s instructional level as well as to measure academic growth throughout this school year in the areas of reading and math. Even though these assessments are not reflected on your child’s report card, this information is vitally important to the school because we use the data to inform instruction and modify the curriculum.

MAP Spring Testing Window: Monday, April 29  - Friday, May 17, 2024
If you have questions about your child’s testing dates and times, please contact your child’s counselor.

Sincerely,
Katie Hartzler
