Nine categories are available for nomination and a special category, Honorary Citizen of the Year, is available for a person/organization who does not reside in Rock Island but has contributed to the good of the community.
Rock Island High School teacher Michelle Greenwood was chosen for the category of Honorary. On August 22, she was honored at the city council meeting.
Michelle had not one but several people who submitted nominations on her behalf.
“Michelle’s dedication to her students is unquestionable. Not only does she plan engaging lessons, but Michelle truly works to make sure each of her students understands concepts, and stays late or gets to school early to help students with their work, even if it is not for her class," said one nomination.
Another nomination stated, “She was by far the most inspirational teacher I have ever had. She always would take time to make sure everyone understood what she was talking about. She always has a smile on her face and loves working with young adults.”
Congratulations Michelle!
