Rocky Prepares the Next Generation of Teachers!

On Thursday, May 26, several Rock Island High School students successfully completed their Education Internship and signed Letters of Intent to further their future career in education at the college or university level. 

 

This school year there were 13 high school students who were placed in classrooms throughout the district - ranging from Kindergarten through High School. Interns worked directly with district educators to observe and carry out a variety of classroom tasks and activities, including assisting students with classwork, teaching small groups, and leading classroom discussions. Any student who goes through the program and graduates from a college or university with the appropriate education license(s) and endorsement(s) will be guaranteed an interview with the RIMSD#41.

 

"Education interns learn the foundations of education as well as gain hands-on experience," said RIHS Teacher and Program Coordinator Mike Mertel. "We feel that it is also a great perk to be able to guarantee the students an interview with RIMSD #41 once they graduate college and get their license and certifications."

 

The Education Internship has been a great success over the last two years and has lined up 30 students who will go through the program in 2022-23.
