Rock Island Readers Get to Vote for Illinois’ Best Book

23 Rock Island High School Students were eligible to vote for this year's Abe Lincoln Illinois High School Book Award.

The Abe Lincoln Book Award is an annual award given to the author of the book voted most outstanding by students in grades nine through twelve in Illinois schools. The program encourages teens to read for pleasure and to become lifelong readers.

Three seniors read all 20 books on the list-- Nelie Ninahazwe, Sage Oviatt, and Phoenix Panick. Additionally, Sage was Rocky's first student to be on the statewide committee to select next year's books!

If you ever wonder if kids read, check out the picture of the bulletin board. Each dinosaur sticker represents one of the books on the Abe Lincoln list that a student reported reading. There's 240 stickers!

Way to go!
