Black History Month at Rock Island High School ended on a high note with their Black Excellence Academic Awards event.
The event was hosted by the high school's African American Heritage Club. The club along with the African American Leadership Society and the Rock Island County NAACP hosted a series of black history events all month.
To wrap up the month they held an award luncheon on Friday, February 25. The event was to celebrate and recognize the black excellence at RIHS. They gave out awards to 33 African American students with GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
The keynote speaker was Bonnie Ballard, President of the Rock Island County NAACP. Superintendent Dr. Lawrence, Board of Education member Tiffany Stoner-Harris and high school counselor Jennifer Page-Pierson said a few words too. Afterward, students and their families were treated to lunch.
