Rock Island High School is hosting Career Day on March 30, 2022. 100 professionals will be invited to the high school to expose Rocky students to a variety of careers and professions. Career Day will help students see the connection between classroom curriculums and careers and jobs, motivate and inspire students, and provide role models for our students.

Mikhayla Hughes-Shaw - Host of Loving Living Local
 
Mikhayla is a QC native from Rock Island, IL, and currently hosts Loving Living Local, which airs on weekdays at noon. It’s an honor and privilege for Mikhayla to uplift and highlight the people and places of the Quad Cities. She’s passionate about the area and loves giving back to the community that gave her so much.    
 
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Iowa. Go Hawks!
 
Mikhayla’s community involvement includes volunteering with Love Girls Magazine and the Miss Iowa Scholarship program. She also loves playing her violin at local events and regularly participates in speaking engagements throughout the community.

Gabriella Hurtado was born and raised in the Quad Cities.  A graduate of Moline High School, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Augustana College and has her Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.  Before finding her niche in higher education, Gabriella worked in mental health and social work.  Over the last 9 years, she has served as the Recruiting Manager for Black Hawk College’s Quad Cities campus where she helps students and families navigate their post-secondary options.

Mrs. Laura Veronica Fontaine has been the Director for World Relief Quad Cities since September 2019.  Her passion for serving and working with different cultures began at a young age. Laura spent the majority of her childhood in a variety of countries throughout Europe as an Army Brat, studied abroad in London, conducted research on development and security in South Africa, and was a Professor of Diplomacy and Economics in China. Rebecca Arnold is a communication and marketing professional who has applied her skills in the public health, non-profit, and publishing sectors. Currently, she is the Resource Development Manager at the Martin Luther King Jr Community Center in Rock Island. She is also adjunct faculty at St Ambrose University.

Quincy Davis is a graduate of Rock Island High School. He received his Business Degree from St. Ambrose University, with a minor in Psychology. Mr. Davis has spent most of his working life with Bethany for Children & Families, where he currently serves in management as the supervisor of the Wraparound Program. Mr. Davis is also an established musician who plays five musical instruments and has recorded two gospel CD’s. He has also hosted a Sunday morning gospel radio show for over fifteen years, called the Gospel Train and he has coached boys basketball in the area for over twenty years, specifically with the Rock Island/Milan Basketball Association, The Future Rocks, and Lonnie Ray’s Elite Academy AAU organization.

K.C. Ross, owner/operator of Cook & Cuffs by Chef Keys has been dubbed “Jane of Few Trades, Master of Two. She has an juxtaposition of careers being a Law Enforcement Officer and a Chef. 
 
Ross is a New York City transplant born and raised in Queens. This is she cut her teeth working in restaurants, hotels, and catered events of all sizes in all five boroughs. She has headed swanky corporate events to private, intimate dinners. You will see food coming out of Ross’ kitchen from across the globe.

Tammy R. Weikert - Circuit Clerk for the 14th Judicial Circuit
 
Tammy R. Weikert is the Clerk of the Circuit Court for the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit in Rock Island County. Her position is an elected non-judicial officer of the Illinois Judicial branch of government, which is responsible for maintaining court files, filing legal documents and attending all sessions of court. The Circuit Clerk’s Office is also responsible for maintaining all fines and fees setup and distributed on cases, entering case dispositions and reporting many statistical reports to many jurisdictions.
