Operation Prom Hits Rock Island High School

On Thursday, April 19, Rock Island High School junior and senior classes attended a staged performance of "Operation Prom," an exercise that conveys the dangers of drunk driving to high school students.

A staged drunk-driving crash, complete with actors, took place in the RIHS stadium. The reality of the situation was followed up with heartfelt speeches in the RIHS Auditorium by an ER doctor, the Rock Island County Coroner, and several individuals who have been directly impacted by impaired drivers.

RIHS Teacher Amanda Randolph orchestrated the event for the second year in a row. "It was a beautiful day for these students to learn some important life lessons. The same type of event made enough impact on me, and I wanted to bring it back for our students."
