Students in Rocky's African American Heritage Club spent a couple of days in Memphis, Tennessee.
They had the opportunity to tour LeMoyne-Owens College, a historically black college. A tour guide took the students to various buildings on campus, which included classrooms, dorm rooms, the bookstore, and the cafeteria. During the tour students learned about the school's history, historical monuments on the campus, and the academic programs the college currently offers. They also informed the students about financial aid and how to obtain grants and scholarships if they become a student at LeMoyne-Owens.
Students were able to visit the Civil Rights Museum as well. There they got to watch a 12-minute video that gave an outline and events covered in the tour of the museum. They also took a tour. The museum presents the journey of African Americans in America, ranging from Africans forced into slavery to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. being shot at the hotel.
It was a great experience for students to learn history and also be exposed to college opportunities.
